Nutritional Counseling Dietary and nutritional deficiencies are responsible for and contribute to a great number of diseases and illnesses. Most of the top killers in this country, including heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes have all been shown to have significant dietary and nutritional components. We have become a nation overfed yet undernourished and this is seen with the drastic increase in obesity, diabetes, and osteoporosis in this country. This is primarily due to lack of knowledge about making healthy diet decisions and not knowing the facts about the prevalence of nutrient deficient foods, chemically altered foods, and poor eating habits. Balanced and optimal nutrient intake provides an important foundation for a good health. Lifestyles and eating habits of today result in unbalanced diets with many people not even meeting RDA levels of all essential nutrients. A person’s diet should be unique for that individual in order to meet specific individual needs depending on the person’s age, sex, lifestyle, health condition, family history of serious disease, and other risk factors. Marginal nutrient deficiencies can be found in all aspects of the population and usually manifest as vague and non-classic symptoms which make it difficult to recognize. This emphasizes the importance of a detailed nutritional evaluation and a customized diet and supplementation program. The role of nutrition and supplementation is particularly important in management and/or prevention of the following conditions: DIABETES, HEART DISEASE, HIGH CHOLESTEROL, CANCER, OBESITY, OSTEOPOROSIS, IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME, GOUT, ANEMIA, FATIGUE, ARTHRITIS, HIV/AIDS, ALLERGIES, HYPOGLYCEMIA, INDIGESTION, LACTOSE INTOLERANCE, GALLBLADDER DISEASE, AND EATING DISORDERS. |
